Ram has over 20 years of experience in referral surgery. This experience includes running an orthopaedic service at the Animal Medical Centre in New York (one of the largest veterinary hospitals in the world). In addition to this, he is the only specialist surgeon in Western Australia to have completed a Fellowship in Surgical Oncology (Colorado State University 2009). Also, he is the Director of our comprehensive Surgery and Oncology Service.
Ram has performed hundreds of plateau-levelling procedures (TWO, TTO, TPLO) on dogs and his preferred method is the TPLO. Ram is happy to talk to you or your vet about the differences between these techniques. He can also discuss their success rates and complications. Ram and his team offer a mobile service to your pet’s clinic for treatment of cranial cruciate ligament injuries.
Ram has authored multiple journal articles and textbook chapters, and is a reviewer for several journals. He also has forthcoming publications in the areas of:
Ram has been invited to present at national and international schools and conferences. These include Europe (University of Ghent, University of Barcelona, ECVS annual conference), North America (Animal Medical Center in New York, Colorado State University, VCS national conference) and Australia.
Along with being a highly experienced surgeon, Ram is a kind, personable character. Most of all though, he has a passion for patient care and the highest professional standards.
Following the last eight years working in New York and Colorado, Ram has returned. Ram has now settled in Perth, with his wife and two children.

Alicia earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University. After an internship in Boston, Massachusetts she completed her residency in Comparative Anesthesiology+Critical Care at the University of Minnesota. Consequently, Alicia developed a passion for emergency and critical care.
Alicia went on to developed the Intensive Care Unit at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston. Where in addition to being the Director of ICU – she was also their anesthetist. Her skills in anesthesia made her the perfect choice for the Boston Zoo. As a result she assisted with surgery on gorillas, polar bears and other large species of zoo animals.
Alicia’s extensive experience and understanding of emergency and critical care has benefited several Veterinary hospitals. In the past, she set-up and coordinated the Murdoch Pet Emergency Centre and integrated it with the rest of Murdoch’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Before returning to the USA where she was the Critical Care Director of DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland, Oregon. While at DoveLewis she helped oversee the building of a new hospital and the reorganization of the Emergency and Critical Care services they provide.
Alicia eventually returned to Australia and settled in Perth. After which, Alicia joined the team at Vet24, Balcatta to develop their ICU. She remains at Vet24 as the criticalist and Hospital Director.
Alicia has always been a strong advocate for continued education. Her continuing contributions to the clinical teaching of interns, residents, technicians and nurses have been of very high standard. In addition, she was the clinical director of nursing at Angell and DoveLewis (DL) and the Co-director of the intern and residency training program at DL. She has been a mentor for technicians at DL. While there, assisting students in studying for their specialty certification in emergency and critical care.
Alicia is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care and a Registered Specialist in Emergency and Critical Care. Her clinical interests include anaesthesia and pain management, sepsis, transfusion medicine, trauma and nutrition. She is widely published and has spoken nationally and internationally to veterinarians, nurses, veterinary students, and the public.
